IR2103S SMD Half-Bridge MOSFET Driver IC SOIC-8 for Inverter and Motor Driver
IR2103S SMD half-bridge MOSFET and IGBT gate driver in SOIC-8. 600V high side, 10-20V supply, 3.3V logic input. For inverters and motor drivers.
Description
The IR2103S is a half-bridge MOSFET and IGBT gate driver IC in an 8-pin SMD (SOIC-8) package. It drives two N-channel MOSFETs or IGBTs in a half-bridge: one low-side and one high-side switch whose floating supply can sit up to 600V above ground, powered by a simple bootstrap diode and capacitor. It is the surface-mount version of the IR2103, with the same pinout as the DIP-8 part.
It is widely used in inverter, UPS, DC motor driver, H-bridge and SMPS boards. The logic inputs accept 3.3V, 5V or 15V signals, so it connects directly to an Arduino, ESP32, STM32 or PIC microcontroller, or to an SPWM chip.
Key Features
- ⚡ 600V high-side floating channel – drives the top MOSFET of a half-bridge using bootstrap operation, no isolated supply needed.
- 🔧 10–20V gate drive supply – suits standard MOSFETs and IGBTs.
- ✅ 3.3V, 5V and 15V logic compatible – works straight from microcontroller pins.
- 🛡️ Built-in shoot-through protection – cross-conduction prevention logic and an internal dead time of about 520 ns stop both switches turning on together.
- 🔋 Undervoltage lockout – outputs switch off if VCC falls below about 8.2V, protecting MOSFETs from weak gate drive.
- 📏 SMD SOIC-8 package – small footprint for compact, machine-assembled boards.
- 🔁 dV/dt immune and tolerant to negative transients on the VS pin.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the IR2103 used for?
The IR2103 drives the two MOSFETs or IGBTs of a half-bridge, the switching stage in inverters, UPS, motor drivers, H-bridges and switch-mode power supplies. Two IR2103 ICs make a full H-bridge.
What is the difference between IR2103 and IR2103S?
They are electrically the same chip with the same pinout. The IR2103 is the through-hole DIP-8 package; the IR2103S is the surface-mount SOIC-8 package.
Can I drive the IR2103S from an Arduino or ESP32?
Yes. The inputs are 3.3V, 5V and 15V logic compatible (logic high is 3V minimum), so microcontroller pins connect directly. VCC still needs 10–20V for the gate drive.
Why is the LIN pin inverted?
On the IR2103, the low-side output is out of phase with LIN: LO is on when LIN is low. Together with the internal dead time, this stops the high-side and low-side switches conducting at the same time.
Why are my outputs not switching?
Check that VCC is above about 9V, since undervoltage lockout keeps the outputs off below that. For the high side, fit a fast bootstrap diode from VCC to VB and a bootstrap capacitor between VB and VS.
